Demari Layne says: Shit... daily challenges? (Demari massages his neck ink). I got kids to feed, cuzz. Das a challenge in itself. Bills to pay, famlay to take care ah. All dat, cuzz... dat shit a challenge. Ain no jobs out here like dat, cuzz. Niggas not gettin dem high-paid jobs if you from round here, feel me?
Grigoriy Petrov says: Yes, thank you. How long have you been living here?
Demari Layne says: I moved round here when I was like (Demari ponders) Shit... I was like, six? We use to stay in Idlewood an shit, you know da Oaks projects? Yeah... we use to stay down der. Moms an pops split, I came up here to live wit my pops. Been here ever since.
Grigoriy Petrov says: What happened there-- I understand and I'm sorry to hear that. How did you integrate here?
Demari Layne says: Shit was smooth when I moved round here, yo. We use to play run outs an shit, ride our BMX's all round da block. We was jus lil jits, feel me? Shit was fun out here.
Grigoriy Petrov says: How did your life change as you grew up? Anything hard in particular?
Demari Layne says: I had a kid at fifteen, dat shit done changed me a lot. Lost loved ones n shit, you know? Seen my friend get buried when I was sixteen years old.
Grigoriy Petrov says: So the challenges begun as soon as you hit puberty, huh?
Demari Layne says: Phaha, dis nigga said puberty. Cuzz, keep it real wishu. I been out here since I was like ten, yo. I moved here at six an stepped off da porch at ten, befo my nuts een started hangin. Like I said, back den... when we was young, shit was /fun/ niggas wasn't dyin left an right, cops wasn't tryna whoop on us. We was jus kids havin fun.
Grigoriy Petrov says: Do you regret growing up here? You wish you had a different childhood or youre okay with the life you lived until now?
Demari Layne says: Hell nah, cuzz... all my memories be from dis block righ here. Shit from West Washington (points left) all da way to East Washington (points right). Today, our team went on the field to try and collect some interviews for our upcoming article 'HOOD TALES'. We've met good people, and bad people -- but this time, the bad people topped the good ones. Our colleague, Petrov, risked his life for you, the viewers of Channel Zero -- he managed to get out but his nose didn't manage to get out. We hope that we will have better days, without injuries, and hopefully with more responses from gangbangers.
